Professional Project Portfolio:

 



I'm actively running - and adding to - a portfolio career as a strategist and feasibility specialist, alongside my writing focus. 

Areas of interest are primarily, but not exclusively:

. Social cohesion     . Ethical and sustainable development    
. Entrepreneurship & "Emerge-preneurship"
. Research, feasibility, and roadmapping

I am looking to work exclusively remotely - I've been successfully working remotely since 2014, so this isn't a "poor little Covid-baby, terrified of the big bad office!" - I happen to be more productive working remotely, and it mitigates the impacts of my disabilities, as well as accommodating my kinship care commitments.  Other people will find themselves being more productive and engaged in the office, and that's fine, too.

PROJECTS SUCCESSFULLY DELIVERED TO DATE:

. Supporting guidance through strategic transformation change and radical social activism focus for a grant making foundation 

. Managing the development of assistive health tech for chronic condition management, including facilitating engagement with external stakeholders, hosting workshops, and running Agile Scrums.

. Managing the transition to a new supplier system through critical system challenges in a healthcare social enterprise, including engaging with high demand external stakeholders and multiple internal barriers.

. Roadmapping an intention to pursue property portfolio build/active management as a revenue generating activity on behalf of a social enterprise.

. Designing and facilitating an inclusive service bridge project for a non-profit client.

. Managing marketing communications, both internal and external, through a retail business' transition from a small bricks and mortar concern to an international omnichannel retailer and publicly traded asset.

CURRENT CAPACITY FOR NEW PROJECTS:

I have several projects in active management, so going into May 2025, my capacity for new projects currently sits at around 10hrs per week.

I do not have a minimum commitment requirement for projects.

  So...we (apparently) enter a new (if likely to be very prolonged) phase of Brand GB's "Business as Usual." That's a good  thing, to my mind - Britain's attitude towards its disabled citizens hasn't really shifted since the Victorian era; we're "unfortunates", the "deserving poor", and the State's duty was to find us "occupation" if it could (think basket weaving and piano tuning for the 19th century blind - I wouldn't mind weaving baskets, honestly, but so few people have their own piano these days, that career option is out, because I'd be expected to travel considerable distances to make enough to keep the lights on, and the wolf from the door of my personal life)  and simply doling out "alms" (handouts with a heavy dollop of pity and assumption of incompetence) when there simply wasn't the need for the kind of work we could be trained to do. Men: Mindsets, Goals, and Being An Outsider (Again!)

This morning, I thought I'd engage with one of the email prompts I get, on a fairly regular basis, from James Boardman 's online coaching business - I read his book, It's a State of Mind , a few years ago, then, more recently, came across the opportunity to sign up for a free PDF of his book Remember the Mission  - I was fully aware that the "free PDF" was just a hook to build an email list for his income-generating courses, but that's fine; typically, people running courses as their business throw in enough occasional freebies to make it worth my while dealing with the constant "Pay me money you don't have, so I can tell you why you're struggling with your finances, health, and motivation!" emails. Identity, Experience, and What's in a Name

  If you've taken a moment to have a look at my  publication history , you'll notice that my writing to date has been published under the name Ashley Ford-McAllister  (as was my previous blog, that I lost the login details for...) So - why the move to Ash Ford-McAllister?  It's a very small change on paper (which it technically isn't - Ashley is still my legal first name) but a huge change on a personal level, and one which reflects a lot. Ash  was a name that, at 9yrs old, and with an absolute certainty that the answer to the question of "What do you want to be when you grow up?" was "a man", and a belief that the "change" people kept warning me about would be when I'd get the same genitals as my Dad had (yes, a female puberty came as a hell of a shock.
